Hi team,
Please see below update, it has been communicated to the Umpiring Department that there were some inaccuracies in communication that was sent on Wednesday May 24.
The below has been confirmed by the AFL South East Junior Football Operations, and apologies for any confusion.
- Juniors (AFLSE, FDJ & SEJ) – Kicking Off the Ground
We have received confirmation from AFL South East Junior Football Operations that for competitions in which AFL South East supply Umpires;
KICKING OFF THE GROUND IS PERMITTTED IN:
- Under 11 Mixed, Under 12 Mixed, Under 13 Mixed, Under 14 Mixed, Under 15 Boys, Under 16 Boys, Under 17.5 Boys.
- Under 14 Girls, Under 16 Girls, Under 19 Girls.
KICKING OFF THE GROUND IS NOT PERMITTED IN:
- Under 12 Girls
This brings our AFLSE, FDJ & SEJ Competitions in line with the Junior Match Policy.
Clubs will be notified that there will be a change to bring into line with the Junior Match Policy and understand there will be a learning process for all involved.
- Juniors (AFLSE, FDJ & SEJ) – South East Based Umpires – Monday June 5 (No Casey Fields Training)
There will be no training on Monday June 5 @ Casey Fields with the VFL & VFL Academy using the facility. Training will be at Heatherbrae Reserve, Officer. We encourage all attendees to wear their Footy Colours for a themed training session.
- Juniors (AFLSE, FDJ & SEJ) – Reporting Incidents
Especially in the Junior Competitions, but not limited to, we have seen an increase in anecdotal evidence of matters surrounding Match Day environment.
We appreciate Umpires who complete proper Match-Day Paperwork and provide fantastic information to AFL South East.
On top of this, if something you believe is serious that’s outside a Match-Day Reportable Incident, please never hesitate to email umpire.info@aflse.com.au or email your coach with anything that has transpired on the weekend.
A Match-Day Conflict Management Coaching Document for our Junior Umpires has been uploaded to the Club Hub and we support all Umpires to make sure they have the safest Match-Day Environment possible.
AFL South East cannot assist with Clubs across our 187 matches with Umpires on a weekend without information to bring to their attention ways we can all improve.
- All Umpires – Wednesday June 7 (No Training – SUA Social Event)
Wednesday June 7, there will be no AFL South East Umpires Training, with all Umpires encouraged to please attend the SUA Bowling Night @ General Public in Frankston.
All details can be found on the SUA Website & Facebook page.
- Seniors (MPFNL & SEWF) – SEWF Matrix
Reminder to all Umpires in the SEWF competition that when the ball is out of bounds, that the Field Umpire is to throw the ball-up. Players can assist in retrieving the ball, but it is the Field Umpire’s role to complete the “ball-up” where appropriate.
- All Umpires – Availability
If you are available for any extra appointments to assist across the MPFNL, SEWF or Junior Competitions, please let your coach know.
We are currently fulfilling an increased number of appointments across all competitions but are always striving for 100% appointments for the whole Region.
- All Umpires – Kings Birthday Weekend
There are matches in the AFL South East Juniors with Interleague Carnival on Saturday & Monday at various venues across the Region.
If you Umpire Juniors regularly and are unavailable for Interleague, please contact Xavier Willis & Darren Murray.
Also we congratulate any of our Players who also Umpire who are selected for these matches!
There are very limited marquee games in the MPFNL Division 1 this weekend and Senior Coaches will broadcast appointments as usual for this week of matches.
- All Umpires – Arrival at Matches
Reminder to all Umpires that showing up to your match at an appropriate time prior to matches, shows respect to the game, the players, the clubs, and your fellow Umpires. If you are going to be late, please reach out to your coach and other appointed Umpires.
- All Umpires – Apparel prior to Matches
Neat Casual Attire is sufficient prior to matches; however, we strongly encourage the SUA Polo Shirt which also has the AFL South East Logo on this.
Junior Umpires should not be wearing their club attire to and from matches in which they officiate.
- All Umpires – Apparel during Matches.
Please use common-sense with any undergarments for your Umpiring apparel, and while we want Umpires to keep warm with upcoming winter weather, a level of professionalism is required. If you’re not sure, ask your coach.
- Juniors (AFLSE, FDJ & SEJ) – Appointments
Umpires should only do the games they have been appointed to by AFLSE by OfficialsHQ.
If you are unsure about any of this, please don’t hesitate to contact Xavier Willis or Darren Murray.
Also, if you have any issues with your appointments, please feel free to contact Xavier or Darren anytime. Just to give you a bit of a snapshot…we have over 140 matches every Sunday and nearly 300 Field Appointments to fill as an example, so please work with your coaches and we can help you.
I thank you all for your continued support and efforts as we enter the middle third of the football season, and appreciate your contribution to the AFL South East competitions.
